Shakira Boyfriend Gerard Pique and Son: 'Waka Waka' Singer Gives Birth to Second Child, Explains Greek/Russian Name
Shakira has given birth to a healthy baby boy, her second son with longtime boyfriend and soccer player Gerard Piqué, in Spain, reports E! News.
The former coach of "The Voice" announced the arrival of her son, Sasha Piqué Mebarak, and explained the meaning of his powerful name.
"The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means 'defender of mankind' and 'warrior,'" her blog states.
Shakira delivered Sasha Thursday night by C-section at the Hospital Quirón-Teknon in Barcelona. Sasha joins 2-year-old brother Milan in the family.
The 37-year-old Colombian-born beauty, who revealed her second pregnancy in August, has been open about her plans to expand her family.
"I would love to have eight or nine kids with Gerard," she told Latina magazine. "My own fútbol team."
The sex of Shakira's baby was perhaps made known too soon by Shakira's eager mother who reportedly said in Barcelona, "Es otro varoncito," meaning, "It's another boy."
Piqué, according to Shakira, is a wonderful father. The "La La La" singer gushed about his parenting style following the birth of her first son.
"He is very involved with his son," she told Hello! about Piqué. "He is always there for him, and that's a big advantage for me as I cannot imagine it any other way."
The two proud parents have a wonderful relationship but have no plans to marry at this time.
"We already have what's essential, you know? We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby," she explained. "I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them. But if I'm ever going to get married, he's the one."
Shakira said having a baby makes her feel so at peace with the world.
"You just want to share the good news and share how happy you feel," she said.
Shakira and Piqué have done just that by hosting the World Baby Shower to directly benefit UNICEF's work for children in the poorest and remotest places on earth.
