Kitten Bowl 2015 Date: 92 Kittens to Play With Mini Footballs As They Face Laser Pointers & Other Distractions
The kittens are vying your attention, just like the professional athletes are.
Not only will you see plenty of football programming on Sunday, you will also see some adorable kittens in Kitten Bowl II at noon eastern on the Hallmark Channel.
This will be an event that will feature 92 adoptable kittens provided by the North Shore Animal League America and Last Hope Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation, according to ABC News.
Last year during the first Kitten Bowl, one million people watched as 72 kittens played. Afterward, all of them were adopted.
The game that the kittens will play will involve mini footballs in a mini stadium. They will face some obstacles though; laser pointers and yarn could distract them from the game.
To start the day there will be two semifinal games: one features the Northpole Panthers taking on the Hallmark Channel Hearties and the other features the Good Witch Wildcats versus the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Mountain Lions. The winner of the semifinal games will take part in the championship game to see who the winner of the Kitten Bowl II is.
Some of the kittens will have creative nicknames, too. Tawny Unitas, Joe Montua and Ryan Fitzcatrick are three of the "cathletes" taking part in the games.
Boomer Esiason, normally a sports broadcaster, will serve as this year's Feline Football League commissioner, according to the Providence Journal.
Beth Stern, a model and author who also volunteers for animal shelters, will host the second Kitten Bowl and is really excited to do it again this year.
"Talk about a dream job, I mean when I was called upon by Hallmark Channel last year to host the first ever Kitten Bowl, I was elated. I couldn't even believe there was such a thing," Stern said to Parade Magazine on a recent podcast.
"What I love about the Kitten Bowl is all of the participants, all of our 'players' are up for adoption. So last year there were 72. This year we upped our game and all 92 kittens -- we taped it a couple months ago -- have since been adopted. It's such a wonderful thing for me just because I'm all about rescuing animals and adopting."
Even though the kittens may look silly playing football, it is for a good cause and people sure do enjoy seeing kittens on TV.
