There is already a ton of harmful and inappropriate material on the Internet. Now, Vine, a social media platform for short videos, is trying to deliver age-appropriate material to children through a service they are calling Vine Kids, according to an official blog post.

Vine Kids is similar to the regular Vine app, except the material will be appropriate for children. Kids will be able to see short six-second clips that include animals and animated characters. The new app will come with sound effects and fun videos that children will be able to interact with on iOS smartphones and tablets, Carolyn Penner, Vine's head of communication and marketing told CNN.

Unlike Vine, Vine Kids will not allow kids to create their own videos. Instead, the videos are built into the app and selected by Vine staff.

According to Engadget, the idea for Vine Kids was created by some Vine employees during a recent hack week. Hack weeks are when workers at tech companies are allowed to work on side projects and be creative rather than focus on their normal daily duties.

The regular version of Vine displays constant loops of six second videos. In the Vine Kids version, the child will be able to swipe left or right to go onto the next video.

For now, the app is only available on iOS devices (Apple). There is no word on whether it will be released for other devices like Android or Windows phones.

More than 40 million registered users are on Vine, according to the company. Vine was acquired by Twitter in 2012.
