Florida Man Faces Aggravated Abuse Charges After Allegedly Trying to Circumcise 20-Month-Old Nephew With Kitchen Knife
A 24-year-old Florida man faces domestic aggravated abuse charges after allegedy attempting to perform a circumcision on his 20-month old nephew with a kitchen knife.
The Orlando Sun-Sentinel reports Larry Leroy Floyd attempted to circumcise the boy Saturday evening while babysitting at his family's home and while his father was out grocery shopping.
Investigators said another adult was in the home when the incident occurred, but had no knowledge of what was happening, only becoming aware when he overheard the baby crying as the father was returning home. That's when he rushed to the baby's father to say "your son is bleeding," according to the New York Daily News.
The father immediately called paramedics, but by the time authorities arrived he had already escorted the child to the hospital, where investigators are hopeful he will make a full recovery.
While police stress they have no motive for Floyd's latest actions, they note he has had several run-ins with the law. According to the Ocala Star Banner, Floyd has served time for petty theft, drug possession and domestic abuse charges.
In late December, he and another person were booked on robbery charges stemming from an incident at a BP gas station, where he and another man allegedly told a woman they "shoot people for a living" and pulled a knife on her.
Floyd was arrested on Jan. 8 on armed robbery charges and police reveal they are looking into the possibility he may have been involved in as many as four similar robberies that took place from around the area over the month of December.
One of the medical profession's most elective forms of surgery, circumcisions are typically performed by surgeons utilizing scalpels and with the aid of general anaesthetic. About one-third of all males across the globe are circumcised, with the procedure being particularly popular in the U.S.
