College Football Scores, Rankings & Schedule 2013: After Upsetting Oregon in 2012, Stanford Looks to Repeat
Stanford remains the underdog leading up to Thursday night's matchup against Oregon, but don't think the players have forgotten about last year.
Oregon slipped just enough in the game between the two squads last year and Stanford escaped with a 17-14 win in overtime; this is, however, a new season. Oregon has plowed through its opponents this year en route to a number two ranking in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll as well as a number 3 ranking on the BCS standings.
Stanford Safety Ed Reynolds, a senior, remembered back to the game between the two teams a year ago.
"You go back and watch that film," he said, "and every single guy on that defense played spot-on. We won the one-on-one matchups. You rarely saw a missed tackle. They blow the lid off you once you have one guy miss."
Stanford's Defensive Coordinator, Derek Mason, knows that it will be an uphill battle this weekend and that it will be extremely difficult to knock off Oregon two years in a row.
"That Oregon team a year ago was tough, dominant and athletic," he said. "Now, they're older, more dominant, more athletic."
Although Oregon has had quite the successful season so far, Stanford has taken care of business as well. The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 start before losing a close game to Washington. Stanford then went on to won the next two games leading up to this week and they're entering the game with an impressive 6-1 record.
The game on Thursday night is slated for 9 p.m. ET at Stanford.
