iPhone 5s Replacement Screen, Hardware Repairs Coming to Apple Stores; Touch ID Fingerprint Sensor Fix Unlikely [Video]
Smartphone owners with Apple's latest iPhones are in luck as repairs for the devices are set to start soon.
From hardware fixes and screen replacements, the official Apple Stores are scheduled to scheduled to start repairing damages but it may come with a price.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple will provide its retail stores with "special machinery" to replace touchscreens for the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s. The price to replace an iPhone's screen is $149, which is more affordable than having to spend for a new device.
Apple Stores will also come equipped to replace hardware such as the rear-facing camera, speaker system, volume buttons, and the vibrating motor within the smartphone.
Sources have noted Apple will not be able to change the Touch ID fingerprint sensor button for the iPhone 5s.
The prices to change the hardware components vary, such as a new battery cost $79 while a Home button for the iPhone 5c has a $29 price tag. Apple customers with an AppleCare warranty can receive the repairs for free as long as the component is defected.
A specific date on when Apple will start repairs is unknown. In regards to repairs for the discontinued iPhone 5, Apple started in-store display and hardware repairs by early 2013, a few months after the device launched in September 2012.
The iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s launched on Sept. 20 Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, United Kingdom, and United States. The smartphone has since landed in more than 30 countries such as Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, India, Mexico, Russian, Saudi Arabia, Spain, South Korea, Turkey, and Taiwan, to name a few.
