Katy Perry to Perform With Domestic Violence Survivor With Russel Brand-Themed Song at Grammy Awards 2015
Kay Perry is finally to publicly speak out about her emotional breakup from ex-husband Russell Brand through a performance at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
Fresh off her riveting Super Bowl XVIX performance, Perry is slated to perform her powerful ballad "By the Grace of God" at this Sunday's 57th annual Grammy Awards show. People Magazine reports Perry will also be joined on the stage by domestic abuse survivor Brooke Axtell, who is scheduled to perform a spoken word piece.
The collaboration between Perry and Axtell was first conceived by show producer Ken Erlich, who said he was moved to begin working on the idea after attending a 2014 meeting at the White House on domestic violence.
"It's an honor to collaborate with Katy in this way," the Austin, Texas-based Axtell said. She has been very devoted to various aspects of female empowerment. "It's going to bring a lot of encouragement and freedom to those who hear my story and know that they are not alone in this."
According to Hollywood Life, 30-year-old Perry was so shaken by her breakup with Brand she once openly talked about having lost at least some of her will to live. Back in 2013, she spoke to Billboard about the song she now plans to perform for a national audience for the Grammy Awards.
"That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?' All the songs are real-life moments," she said.
For what it's worth, the 39-year-old Brand has at least tried to keep things civil with his ex. Just before her big-game halftime performance, he took to social media to wish Perry luck.
"Super Bowl may be baffling to Brits but half time show will be amazing. Good luck KP," he said via Twitter.
Perry's biggest hits include "Roar," "The One That got Away," "I Kissed A Girl" and "E.T."
