Lorde and Selena Gomez Feud: Gomez Fires Back at Anti-Feminist Allegations
There has been a feud between 21-year-old Selena Gomez and the New Zealand indie-pop singer Lorde, which involves the subject of feminism. Gomez addresses the 17-year-old singer's recent remarks, which has accused her song "Come & Get It" of being anti-feminist and sending a bad message to the fans.
Selena Gomez officially turned of legal age just a few months ago, which she commented, "I'm becoming a woman." The singer seems to carry out the theme of her becoming a grownup woman throughout her latest album, "Stars Dance."
"I'll be sittin' right here, real patient / All day, all night, I'll be waiting standby" she sings in her hit single "Come & Get It" before breaking into the more seductive chorus - "If you're ready come and get it."
The "Royals" singer in return has responded to Gomez' song, saying that the singer is not portraying women in a correct way.
"I'm a feminist and the theme of her song is, 'When you're ready come and get it from me,'" Lorde said of the track in a statement earlier this year. "I'm sick of women being portrayed this way."
"I have pretty strong morals and opinions being in pop music, and I can't help but express those, which I think people appreciate," the outspoken singer defended what she has said. "I mean, I don't think I say anything that isn't backed up. Most of the time I will stand by things I've said."
Selena Gomez has been selected by the indie magazine Flaunt to be featured in the cover story of the publication's latest issue. In the series of dark and mysterious photographs taken by Amanda de Cadenet, Gomez certainly looks far from her innocent Disney days.
The "Come & Get It" singer sports a short black bobbed wig with smoky eyes and nude lip combination all throughout the photo shoots, while lounging on a bed in various different revealing outfits, including a lacy black bra and pencil skirt that show off her slender figure.
During the interview with Flaunt magazine, Selena Gomez comments on Lorde's remarks.
"That's not feminism. [Lorde is] not supporting other women. That's my honest opinion, that's what I would say to her if I saw her," she says. "I actually covered her song in all of my shows that I've done so far... I'm not sure if I'm going to continue that."
