Miss Universe 2013 Winner Gabriela Isler Dons Million Dollar Swimsuit, Venezuelan Beauty Brings Seventh Title to Country
On Nov. 9, Gabriela Isler, Miss Venezuela, became the 2013 Miss Universe after winning the pageant in Moscow's Crocus City Hall.
The 5'10'' beauty bested 85 other international competitors to win the gold and platinum crown that she will don for a year.
"I feel very happy to share my first day as Miss Universe," Isler said on Sunday. "I'm a simple girl. I am just come to have fun, to enjoy the moment-and here I am."
According to Isler's profile on the Miss Universe website, the 25-year-old is a trained flamenco dancer and is a "second mother" to her niece. Isler is also a television personality on Venevision TV Network .
Isler brought Venezuela its seventh Miss Universe title ever and its third in six years (the only country to have more victories is the United States with eight wins in 60 years). Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called Isler's victory a "triumph for Venezuela" via a Twitter post.
Isler's first duty as Miss Universe was to model a million-dollar swimsuit designed by Yamamay during a photo shoot at a Moscow hotel.
"I'm very simple but very elegant, so it's like me," Isler said of the swimsuit which features 900 stones, including rubies, emerald pendants and diamonds.
Isler modeled the suit while armed guards stayed close.
"I'm still asking: Where are those guards? Because I'll run with it," Isler joked.
Isler's full name is María Gabriela Isler, but her friends call her Molly. She grew up in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Latina influence was strong during this year's Miss Universe pageant.
"Ibero-America reigned supreme once more among the most beautiful women on the planet, since no less than eight of the original 16 finalists came from Spain and seven Latin American countries," Fox News Latino reported.
Miss Spain, Patricia Rodrigues was runner-up in the competition.
