The police in Merrimack, New Hampshire want to get even with famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil for predicting six more weeks of winter and have posted a warrant for his arrest on their Facebook page.

"We have received several complaints from the public that this little varmint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty," the post reads. "He told several people that winter would last 6 more weeks, however he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow!"

The Northeastern U.S. states have been hammered by snow lately, and residents are frustrated with Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of more winter.

"If you see him, do not approach him as he is armed and dangerous. Call Merrimack Police, we will certainly take him into custody!" Merrimack Police said in the Facebook post.

People on Facebook are reacting to the announcement of Punxsutawney Phil's arrest warrant.

"He will get what's coming to him!" Christina Worcester commented.

"Sounds like a long stint in the Big House for Punxsutawney Phil!" Valerie Good-Dunn said.

The forecast for Thursday in Merrimack calls for some afternoon snow, and then it will get very cold and windy for the next week, according to Accuweather.com. Punxsutawney Phil's prediction for more winter is ringing true in New Hampshire. Temperatures will not peak above freezing until Feb. 22, the extended forecast shows.

It is not clear where Punxsutawney Phil is currently located. After his prediction in Pennsylvania, he likely went into hiding, but Suson Hutcheson Pardew says if he is in New Orleans, he better be careful.

"Someone spotted him at a Mardi Gras parade down here in [New Orleans]! When asked for comment why he was down South he replied 'why would I want to be in the North with their record snowfalls?' He was last seen venturing into the French Quarter with paws filled with beads. He better watch out, we eat critters like that down here!" she said.
