This NFL offseason promises to be one of the most exciting ones in recent memory with so many great players entering free agency, and one of the big names who may do just that is New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Revis has one year remaining on his contract with the Patriots. The issue is, Revis' contract brings about a $25 million cap hit against general manager Bill Belichick and the Patriots' salary cap next season. Most likely, the Patriots and Revis will restructure for a new long-term contract or they will just let him walk as a free agent.

According to multiple NFL reports, the Buffalo Bills have shown interest in signing Revis. At first that may seem like a good idea, but the Bills should avoid signing Revis this entire offseason.

Despite missing the playoffs last season (for the 15th consecutive year), the Bills had a terrific defense. Last season, the Bills' defense ranked fourth overall in the NFL in yards against and fourth overall in points against. More importantly, they had one of the best secondary's in the league. Last year's Bills allowed the third fewest passing yards and the single fewest passing touchdowns in the entire league. Buffalo's secondary even ranked No. 6 overall in interceptions last season.

In layman's terms, the Bills already have a great defense. They don't need Revis, or his $20 million payroll every season. With so many salary cap restrictions and penalties in place, breaking the bank on a positional player you're already deep in is absolute madness. Rex Ryan wants his former Pro Bowl corner, but he has to listen to reason.

The Bills offense ranked 26th overall last season.

Buffalo should focus almost entirely on their terrible offense. Quarterback EJ Manuel is looking like a draft bust, and Kyle Orton has retired. Orton wasn't an elite quarterback, but he played very well last season, replacing Manuel in the final 12 games of the season with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. But he won't be returning next season, and the Bills have a lot of running back issues as well. C.J. Spiller is a free agent this offseason, and most likely the Bills will not re-sign him because of his inability to stay on the field.

Signing Revis would cap-strap the Bills from making the necessary moves possible to improve their anemic offense. Buffalo has nearly $30 million in salary cap space, which ranks as the eighth-highest in the league. That money should be focusing on key free agents such as DeMarco Murray, Frank Gore, Knowshon Moreno, Shane Vereen, Justin Forsett, Jermaine Gresham and other offensive free agents.

Thanks to Marcell Dareus, Jerry Hughes and Mario Williams, the Bills led the NFL in sacks last season. Getting to the quarterback can be the best way stop the pass as we all know. Revis would fit into the Bills system just fine; it's just they have a lot more pressing issues to focus on this offseason.
