Winter Storm Warning 2015: Boston, New York City, Massachusetts and Connecticut Expected to be Hit With Snow, Possible Flight Delays
After already receiving record breaking snowfall this season, residents in southern New England can expect to be hit with even more snow.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Stephanie Dunten predicts that the region will receive 2 to 4 inches of new snow throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island from Thursday to Friday morning, reports The Associated Press.
Cape Cod is also expected to get up to 3 inches of snow, while western Massachusetts and portions of Connecticut could get 1 to 3 of accumulation. Meanwhile, Boston will likely see an additional 1 to 2 inches.
However, New England is expected to get hit with an even stronger storm system on Sunday into Monday.
Meteorlogist Dunten also warned that frigid temperatures will keep the snow on the ground.
"The snow is not going to be melting anytime soon," she said on Tuesday. "We recommend homeowners scrape any snow off their roofs to avoid overloading, as we've already seen a few roofs collapsing."
Meanwhile, Philadelphia, New York City, Albany, New York and Hartford, Connecticut will probably see a light coating of snow during Thursday's storm. This may lead to slippery roads and the chance of minor airline delays in Philadelphia, New York City and Boston, reports AOL.
Plus, there will be slippery travel conditions in Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Dover, Delaware as mixed rain and snow moves into the region.
Parts of southeastern Massachusetts, eastern Long Island, coastal New Hampshire and Maine are also forecasted to get a few inches of snow from Thursday night into Friday.
In the meantime, forecasters will continue to watch for a storm that could dump higher amounts over Valentine's Day weekend.
Because of the all the snowfall, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh said the city may consider holding classes on Saturdays or during spring break in order to make up for all of the school cancellations.
"If we miss one more school day, we're in different territory," Walsh said Tuesday, adding, "We have no place to make it up."
