Nike is expected to make waves again as the highly anticipated edition of Kevin Durant's latest signature shoe is about to hit the sneaker market on Thursday.

Nike will release the KD 7, the seventh signature of the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar, in White/Pink Pow/Pure Platinum/Metallic Gold colorway, which is named the "Aunt Pearl" edition -- a familiar shoe name to Nike fans as it also made a lot of noise last year with the KD 6.

The KD 7 "Aunt Pearl" features a white-based upper part combined with pink hints and metallic gold KD branding on the tongue and Nike Swoosh logo. It is finished off with a visible Zoom Air unit and a pure platinum outsole.

Like the KD 6 "Aunt Pearl" that was one of the best-selling shoes last year, this edition of the KD 7 was made as a way for Durant to commemorate his beloved Aunt Pearl, who succumbed to lung cancer 14 years ago. Since his aunt died in 2001, Durant promised himself he would always keep her memory alive, Nike noted.

Durant, the reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, has an angel tattoo on his back, which is also one of his ways of paying tribute to his aunt, who he admired for her humility and grace. According to Nike, the angel tattoo, which was created by Randy Harris, was the inspiration for the KD 7 "Aunt Pearl" edition.

"Nike designer Leo Chang's inspiration for the new KD7 Aunt Pearl shoe came from Durant's angel tattoo," Nike said in a statement. "Chang brought Harris's artistry to the shoe with a three-dimensional angel wing strap, a print of the actual tattoo on the inside of the tongue and wing-pattern detailing on both gold Swoosh design logos."

Under the angel wing strap are prints showing names of special people in Durant's life -- Wanda (mother), Barbara (grandmother), Wayne (father) and Tony (brother). Also under the strap is a print, indicating, "Kevin Durant & Kay Yow Cancer Fund," since this shoe was also made in partnership with Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

"While honoring Aunt Pearl's life, Durant and Chang also aspired to raise cancer awareness with the new design by adorning the heel with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund logo," Nike said. "Nike has been a proud supporter of the work and efforts of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for seven years."

The KD 7 Premium "Aunt Pearl" will be available starting Thursday, 10 a.m. EST, for $170 per pair on Nike.com and select Nike Stores worldwide. More information and official photos of this shoe are available on this link.
