'SNL' 40th Anniversary Special: Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin Pay Tribute to Tracy Morgan
Tracy Morgan, who is still recovering from a traumatic brain injury following a June 2014 car accident, was not forgotten on Sunday's "Saturday Night Live" 40th anniversary TV special. He was unable to attend the "SNL" special, but Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin made sure their former "30 Rock" co-star knew he was missed, reports the New York Post.
"I wish my friend Tracy Morgan was here tonight," Fey said. "I know he was hoping he would be well enough to be here, too."
To lighten the somber moment, Alec attempted to impersonate Tracy, which brought on laughs. Fey said, "If he were here tonight I am sure Tracy would remind us that more than anything, he would like to get us all pregnant. See you at the 41st, Tracy. We love you."
Morgan, 46, spent eight seasons as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" (1996-2003). He is best known for his roles as Brian Fellow and Astronaut Jones. He returned to host the show on March 14, 2009. He also made a guest appearance on the "Saturday Night Live" Christmas show in December 2011, which was hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
The comedian suffered a brain injury last June when a Wal-Mart truck driven by Kevin Roper crashed into his limousine bus on the New Jersey Turnpike. His friend and fellow comedian James McNair was killed. Three other passengers were hospitalized in severe condition, Morgan included.
Roper, 35, allegedly had not slept for 24 hours before the deadly crash, according to authorities. He is facing criminal charges of death by auto and assault by auto, as well as a civil suit filed by Morgan.
Six months after the car crash, Morgan was spotted at a New Jersey post office using a walker.
"[I'm] fighting every day," he said to two paparazzi, according to ABC News.
It is unknown how long it will take Morgan to recover from the brain injury or if he will perform again.
