LG will start offering a virtual reality attachment to new buyers of the LG G3 smartphone.

Mashable reports the gadget is very similar to Google's Cardboard attachment. The user looks through the attachment and can see virtual reality images displayed right on the G3's screen.

The LG G3 smartphone has a Quad HD display, something that very few phones can say they have. This display makes it perfect for using a virtual reality attachment because of the amount of pixels displayed. Quad HD has 3.7 million pixels and since users of virtual reality attachments are only about one inch from the screen, they will need to see as many pixels as possible.

LG's virtual reality headset is a simple piece of plastic that attaches to the LG G3. The volume and power buttons are conveniently located on the bottom of the G3 making the usage of the virtual reality attachment easier.

Once an LG G3 owner gets their hands on one of the virtual reality attachments, they will be able to download virtual reality games and apps from the Google Play Store and "transport themselves to another world" LG told CNet.

For now, LG plans to only offer the VR for G3 to new purchasers of the LG G3 smartphone. That means existing LG G3 owners will not be able to experience virtual reality just yet on their devices.

The virtual reality attachment will come in a box with a special QR code. When owners scan the code, they will be given a free download to the virtual reality game "Robobliteration."

LG's promotion does not have a cut-off date, but it is not expected to make a big deal out of the VR for G3. Additonally, the company does not plan to offer the accessory as a stand alone purchase.

LG is responding to Samsung's Gear VR which was introduced in 2014. That attachment hooks up to Samsung Note 4 smartphones.
