The Miami Heat acquired Goran Dragic in a blockbuster deal with Phoenix Suns shortly before the 3 p.m. EST NBA trade deadline on Thursday, multiple reports confirmed.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Heat acquired Dragic along with his brother Zoran Dragic from the Suns in exchange for Danny Granger, Norris Cole, Shawne Williams, Justin Hamilton and two first-round picks.

Following the deal, the Heat suddenly became a contender in the Eastern Conference again as they are expected to move on with a starting lineup of Dragic, Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside.

In a separate deal, the Suns sent Cole and Williams to the New Orleans Pelicans for veteran John Salmons.

Dragic, who is averaging 16.2 points to go along with 4.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game this season, told the Suns on Wednesday that he wants out of Phoenix and will not sign a new deal when his contract runs out this summer after getting reduced role this season.

Dragic had the opportunity to control his fate as teams were reluctant to acquire the 28-year-old point guard without getting a long-term commitment. Reports on Wednesday suggested that Dragic listed the Heat along with Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks as his preferred destinations -- teams where he is planning to sign a new deal.

The Lakers and the Knicks reportedly inquired about Dragic before the deadline, but the Suns did not receive an attractive offer. Both teams have previously been linked to a possible move to acquire Dragic in the offseason when the Slovenian guard becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Dragic made it no secret that he is frustrated with his role in Phoenix this season after the Suns acquired Isaiah Thomas in the offseason and signed Eric Bledsoe to a five-year deal. The Suns tried to convince Dragic to stay by shopping Thomas, but Dragic declared that he will not rescind his trade request.

Interestingly, the Suns still traded Thomas to the Boston Celtics for Marcus Thornton and the 2016 first-round pick owned by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In a separate deal before the deadline, the Suns acquired Brandon Knight from the Milwaukee Bucks in a three-team deal that sent Michael Carter-Williams, Miles Plumlee and Tyler Ennis to Milwaukee, and a future draft pick to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Reacting to the trade, Carter-Williams, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year who is averaging 15.0 points to go along with 7.4 assists and 6.2 rebounds, took to Twitter and posted: "I can't lie I'm shocked. I love this city thank you for everything. I can honestly say I gave it my all. I wish Philly nothing but the best."
