Amanda Bynes DUI Case 2015 News: Judge Extends Actress' Conservatorship While She Is Reportedly 'Much Happier' With Parents
A Ventura County, California judge ruled Tuesday to extend Amanda Bynes' conservatorship until a hearing on June 23.
Bynes' parents continue to have control over her finances and medical care, reports People magazine.
After a troubling end to 2014 that included the 28-year-old's stay in a Pasadena mental health facility, threatening to kill her parents and behaving erratically in West Hollywood, Amanda Bynes seems to be improving.
Bynes' lawyer David Esquibias confirmed that in January the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office decided not to press charges against her regarding her arrest on suspicion of DUI last September.
"Amanda is doing well," Esquibias told PEOPLE.
The "Easy A" star isn't out of the woods yet. Her DUI case is being forwarded to the L.A. Country District Attorney's Office as a possible violation of her probation.
The actress was first arrested for DUI in 2012, but a California judge allowed her to complete inpatient treatment instead of jail time and placed her on three years' probation.
"Amanda is doing much better from where she was months ago," a family source told People. "She has her own apartment and is much happier. She and her parents are getting along and Amanda is clear-headed, more focused and has more independence."
The actress was spotted in public on Jan. 31 when she and a girlfriend went shopping in West Hollywood, California. She reportedly looked healthy and fit.
The troubled star, who has reportedly been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolarity, was doing so well in December that her parents granted her limited access to her bank accounts.
It seems that staying on medication is the key to Bynes' success. It was about four months ago that audio recordings of the actress threatening to kill her parents surfaced, for which Bynes has apologized. She was not taking her medication properly at that time.
Despite the good news of Bynes' progress, the family still has to deal with legal action by Artemio Santiago, the lawyer she hired during her psychiatric meltdown last October. He claims the actress owes him $16,000.
