Pharrell Williams Releases First Ever 24-Hour Music Video, "Happy" [WATCH]
On Thursday, November 21, the Hip-Hop producer and rapper Pharrell released an extraordinary visual for his groovy song "Happy" that will make your entire day. Literally.
"Happy" is the first single that is featured on the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack of this summer's 3D computer-animated action comedy film, "Despicable Me 2." The jazzy soul-funk track is played on repeat all throughout the extensive visual.
The world's first 24-Hour long video has its six parts, broken down into 4 hours each. In the upbeat and enthusiastic visual, there are several noteworthy guest appearances from Jimmy Kimmel, Steve Carell who also stars in "Despicable Me" as Gru, Magic Johnson and members of Odd Future including Tyler, the Creator. Pharrall and his friends exuberantly stroll and dance around in the midst of Los Angeles to the tune.
This year has been quite successful for Pharrell: He produced hit singles for other artists, including Robin Thicke's infamous twerking summer hit "Blurred Lines" and Daft Punk's very catchy club-ready track "Get Lucky." The producer was recently named GQ's "Hitmaker of the Year 2013" on the publication's Autumn/Winter issue.
Pharrell explained that the two previous tracks were successful this year because they allowed people to have fun. "Both songs are for people who need a break," he said in the GQ profile. "There's a lot of fucked-up travesty in the world. Sometimes you just need a Hallmark card. Sometimes you just need to shake your ass."
The special video is currently viewable online at 24hoursofhappy.com.
