The Champions League returns on Tuesday with two decisive matches.

The first game features an interesting contest between FC Basel and Portuguese side Porto while the second game of the day will be contested at the Santiago Bernabeu between Real Madrid and Schalke 04.

The Porto-Basel match offers up more drama than the Real Madrid one because the two sides enter the game in Portugal tied 1-1 on aggregate. In the first leg, the visiting side dominated possession and had an overwhelming shots advantage of 15-1, but actually had to wait until the 79th minute to earn a crucial tying goal. With the 1-1 draw, Porto can head home, control possession and play for a 0-0 draw.

Basel meanwhile must play for a victory or a draw of 2-2 or higher to ensure a spot in the quarterfinals.

Prediction: Porto wins 2-0.

In the second game of the day, Real Madrid will look to ensure a place in the quarterfinals against Schalke 04. At this point in the tie, the defending European champs hold a 2-0 aggregate and can afford a 1-0 lost on their own home soil. The team has only lost once at home all year, and that came against rival Atletico Madrid. The odds of a defeat in front of home fans is highly unlikely, but then again, no one knows what to expect from Carlo Ancelotti's men these days.

The team has managed no wins in the last two weeks and Real Madrid has arguably hit a low point on the year by squandering first place to rival Barcelona. A win in this game would be a huge confidence booster for this team, especially with a fateful Clasico coming up next week. The team desperately needs to see some signs of life from its top players -- particularly Cristiano Ronaldo, who could become Europe's top goal scorer with a hat trick. Ronaldo is undoubtedly feeling the heat from rival Lionel Messi, who has pulled into a tie with him for the Spanish League goal scoring lead. It will be a huge test for the Portuguese superstar whose current form is among the worst of his career.
