2015 NFL Free Agents: Top 10 Best Free Agents & Predicting Where They Could Land This Offseason
The 2015-16 NFL regular season doesn't begin until September, but this offseason promises to be as exciting as ever.
Ndamukong Suh has already agreed on the largest contract by a defensive player in NFL history with the Miami Dolphins. Over in Kansas City, Jeremy Maclin is being reunited with the his former head coach Andy Reid.
Still, there are plenty of great players set to become free agents. The NFL free agent period begins on Tuesday, March 10, at 4 p.m. EST.
Latin Post counts down the top 10 players who will become free agents and predict where they could land:
1. Darrelle Revis
The New England Patriots recently announced that they would not be exercising their team option on Darrelle Revis. This was expected because keeping Revis on that contract would have counted $25 million against the Patriots salary cap next season. Yikes. There's still a chance Revis can come back to the Patriots on a new deal, but the New York Jets are willing to spend even more to bring Revis back. The question now is, Does Revis want to win again? Or does he want more money?
Possible destinations: New England Patriots, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills
2. DeMarco Murray
As expected, the Dallas Cowboys used the franchise tag on wide receiver Dez Bryant, thus leaving DeMarco Murray to test the market. Murray had an incredible season last year rushing for 1,845 yards and a league-high 13 touchdowns. He may be 27 years old, but Murray can certainly help a team that needs a running back on a short-term deal. Don't rule out a Cowboys return for Murray either.
Possible destinations: Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders
3. Terrance Knighton
If your team has run blocking issues, you might want to sign this man. Terrance Knighton is heavily regarded as one of the best run stoppers in the league. Last season he led the Denver Broncos defensive line to the No. 2 rush defense in the NFL. The Chicago Bears and Washington Redksins have shown a lot of interest in the young tackle as well.
Possible destinations: Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders
4. Julius Thomas
You could argue he's the best tight in the NFL. Julius Thomas has caught 12 touchdowns in each of the last two seasons for the Denver Broncos. The odds of him returning to the Broncos are extremely slim. All signs point to the Jaguars signing Thomas, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Possible destinations: Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles
5. Nick Fairley
With Suh departing for South Beach, the Lions know losing Nick Fairley would be very detrimental. Fairley obviously isn't as talented as Suh. But he can stop the run, and he's still just 27 years old. The Lions may have to overspend for Fairley's survives to maintain an average defense, especially in a division that has Aaron Rodgers in it.
Possible destinations: Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers
6. Bryan Bulaga
Bryan Bulaga has spent his entire career blocking for Aaron Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers. The former first round draft pick helped the Packers win a Super Bowl against the Steelers. With Randall Cobb now under contract, the Packers can now focus on re-signing their 25-year-old star right tackle.
Possible destinations: Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers
7. Frank Gore
It looked like Frank Gore had agreed to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles, but lately we're hearing he is having "second thoughts." Maybe he doesn't like Chip Kelly's fast paced offense, or maybe he's just stalling. Gore isn't very fast, but he's the most consistent running back in the game today and he very rarely fumbles.
Possible destinations: Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans
8. Jason Worilds
Probably the most underrated free agent this offseason. Many fans thought the Pittsburgh Steelers would use the franchise tag on Jason Worilds, but that wasn't the case. Worilds has recorded 15.5 sacks the last two seasons, and he's only missed one game over the last three years. Worilds would definitely help a team that needs linebacker support, and he won't cost top dollar.
Possible destinations: New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears
9. Andre Johnson
Andre Johnson may be 33 years old, but he still plays at a high level. It was very surprising to see the Houston Texans release Johnson and not get any value back in return. Even last season with mediocre quarterbacks throwing him the ball, Johnson still had 936 receiving yards. The two previous years Johnson had over 1,400 yards in each of those seasons. Here's Johnson chance to take less money and play for a contender.
Possible destinations: New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos
10. Vince Wilfork
Patriots fans know how important Vince Wilfork is to the team. In 2013 Wilfork played just four games and the Patriots run defense ranked 30th overall. Last season Wilfork played every game and the Patriots run defense ranked 9th in the league. You get the picture. Wilfork is a great team leader, excellent run stopper, and he is a two time Super Bowl champion. Don't count out retirement.
Possible destinations: New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns
Other notable free agents include: Reggie Wayne, Devin McCourty, Greg Hardy, Brandon Flowers, Michael Crabtree, Mark Sanchez, Mike Iupati, Tim Tebow, Knowshon Moreno, Ryan Mathews, Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, CJ Spiller, Wes Welker, Doug Free, Orlando Franklin, B. J. Raji.
