Mark-Paul Gosselaar News: Former ‘Saved By the Bell’ Star to Join NBC's 'People Are Talking'
"Saved by the Bell" alum Mark-Paul Gosselaar landed the leading role in NBC's comedy pilot "People Are Talking," reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The NBC comedy pilot is written by DJ Nash ("Growing Up Fisher"). It is about a white and a black couple and explores friendship, sex and race.
Gosselaar will star as Mitch, a neurotic college ethics professor who tends to overthink things and crave justice. While he can't change the world, Mitch is determined to alter his corner of it.
Tone Bell ("Bad Judge") plays Mitch's best friend and neighbor. Bresha Webb plays Bell's love interest on the show. Brooke Ishibashi co-stars as Mitch's wife who balances her career as a tough-as-nails attorney and being a loving mother.
The role marks Gosselaar's return to NBC where he debuted on "Saved by the Bell." His latest TV role was on TNT's legal comedy "Franklin & Bash," which ended its four-season run in October. He also played reccurring characters Jared Briscoe and Paul Winthrop on CBS's "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
Gosselaar is best known as lead character Zack Morris from "Saved by the Bell," a hit NBC comedy that focused on the lives, pranks and crushes of six high school students. Zack was a teen heartthrob while the show aired between 1989 and 1993.
February was a busy month for the actor. He and other "Saved by the Bell" cast members reunited to join Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show" for a comedy sketch that paid tribute to the show.
The father of four welcomed a baby girl named Lachlyn Hope. Lachlyn is the second child of Gosselaar and his wife of two years Catriona McGinn.
The 41-year-old actor proved he still has what it takes to be a heartthrob in February when he posted a naked photo on Twitter of himself and buddy Ben Ceccarelli with the caption, "Teaming up with @Piketoon for the @CACrossFit #pairpower competition. @CrossFit. Some would say we've already won."
