Soulful crooner Angie Stone was has been charged with domestic aggravated assault stemming from a bloody fight with her 30-year-old daughter.

TMZ reports Stone was taken into custody sometime on Monday after she allegedly struck her daughter in the face with a metal stand, knocking out at least one of her teeth. The 53-year-old R&B singer reportedly told DeKalb County police her daughter punched her in the face first at the height of a dispute over her children, forcing her to defend herself.

The three-time Grammy-nominated singer added she struck her daughter accidentally and immediately put the stand away after realizing what had happened, only to be forced to flee from her Rogers Lake Road home when her daughter again tried to attack her.

Family friend Blondy Chisolm later broke up the spat, but told investigators she was not sure who threw the first punch. Both Angie Stone and her daughter were taken to the police station, but Diamond Stone was later released without being charged.

Stone is revered for such hits as "Brotha," "No More Rain" and "Wish I Didn't Miss You." Currently, she stars on the TV One reality show "R&B Divas: Atlanta, where she has resided since 2008.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the incident is not Stone's first run-in with the law. Nearly four years ago, she was arrested while driving to church after being stopped for speeding. During their investigation, police also determined she was driving on a suspended license.

Born Angela Brown, Stone was nominated for Grammys in 2003, 2004 and 2008. The Associated Press reports phone calls and emails sent to reps for Stone went without response and it's unknown if she has yet hired an attorney.
