Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman has joined the cast of the next 007 film "Spectre."

The news was announced this week on the official James Bond 007 Facebook page. Sigman will play the character of Estrella (which means "star" in Spanish), but few details are known about the character or the role she will play in the plot of the film.

Sigman joins Italian actress Monica Bellucci and French actress Lea Seydoux as a Bond girl in the upcoming film.

Based on the fact that Sigman is the lesser-known of the three Bond girls announced so far, there is already speculation that Sigman won't make it to the final credits. One Facebook user suggested she'd be the film's "sacrificial lamb" while another suggested that "She will most likely be a fling of Bond's in Mexico or a Mexican agent working with Bond the short time he'll be in Mexico."

The news of a new castmate comes as no surprise as studio films usually add cast members as the films are shooting. Sigman is likely to have a small role especially since she is joining the cast midway in the film. Like the Facebook user suggested, she will most likely die like past Bond girls or she will be in brief scenes.

Sigman is a recognized Mexican actress and has previously starred in Mexico's 2011 Oscar foreign language submission, "Miss Bala," as well as the Norwegian thriller "Pioneer." She recently appeared in FX's U.S. remake of the Danish/Swedish series "The Bridge" and Netflix's "Narcos."

The actress is slated to appear in Andrew Fierberg's upcoming film "EL Ciel es Azul" starring Miguel Rodarte and Osvaldo Bendavides.

"Spectre" has been in production for a couple of months and last month director Sam Mendes released a behind-the-scenes video of the shoot, featuring Daniel Craig as well as "Skyfall" returnees Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Ralph Fiennes.

In the video, Mendes said, "What you have is a movie entirely driven by Bond. He is on a mission from the very beginning. It's about whether or not to pursue the life he's always pursued, whether he matters and is he going to continue or not."

"Spectre" is slated to have a number of new faces to the Bond series including Christoph Waltz, who is playing the villain, Dave Bautista and Andrew Scott. The first image of Bautista's villain Mr Hinx was released last month and has already garnered a lot of buzz.

The casting of the actress marks the second Latino to join the Bond series. Javier Bardem played the iconic Silva in 2012's "Skyfall" and was critically acclaimed.

"Spectre" has a tough challenge as it will follow the critically acclaimed "Skyfall," which not only became the highest grossing Bond film ever made but also scored a number of Academy Award nominations and went home with two. It also garnered Bardem BAFTA and SAG nominations for Best Supporting Actor. "Spectre" is also the first James Bond film to have a director helm a consecutive film.

"Spectre" is set for release in the U.S. on Nov. 6 and is likely to be the hit of the holiday season.
