Washington state police arrested a 15-year-old boy who was caught on a surveillance video allegedly trying to kidnap a toddler on Sunday.

Officials say that the teenager, who has not been named, tried to abduct a 22-month-old baby from a public park in Sprague, a small farming town in eastern Washington. However, his efforts were thwarted by the baby's 8-year-old sister and 10-year-old brother, who ran after the teen screaming for help.

The incident began after a babysitter left the three siblings -- Brenden, 10, Delicia, 8, and the toddler -- unattended in a city park near the sitter's house. The suspect approached the children and began talking to them for a few minutes. He then scooped the toddler out of his stroller and ran down the street.

Surveillance footage from a nearby grocery store captured the teen running with the tot in his arms. Not far behind him are the baby's siblings. Two teenaged male witnesses say they heard the little girl yelling about her baby brother and immediately took off after the kidnapper. Eventually, the kidnapper dropped the baby in a vacant lot and fled the scene. Fortunately, the toddler was not hurt.

After days of interviews, DNA testing and searching, police were able to identify the suspect on Wednesday, said Lincoln County Sheriff Wade Magers, reports Reuters. However, his identity is being withheld since he is a juvenile.

"Over the past 72 hours, deputies and detectives have worked relentlessly on this case," Magers said in a news release, according to The Associated Press.

"Additional evidence, interviews, DNA collection and surveillance was conducted," Magers said. "A search warrant was executed at the suspect's residence."

Magers added that one of the kidnap victim's siblings was able to positively identify the suspect.

The 15-year-old was booked into a juvenile detention facility and has been charged with second-degree kidnapping.
