Director Gregory Nava and singer-actress Jennifer Lopez will work together on an NBC limited series about the history of California, reports Deadline.

The project, titled "California," follows a fictional Latino family and their 200-year journey in California from Spanish, to Mexican, to American rule.

Nava and his long-time collaborator Barbara Martinez-Jitner, both California natives, will write the event series, now in development, with Nava as director.

Lopez and her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, will executive produce the series through her company Lopez's Nuyorican Productions alongside Nava, Martinez-Jitner and Benny Medina.

It is not the first television series Lopez and her production company have produced. Nuyorican has two drama series on the air: "The Fosters" on ABC Family and the upcoming NBC show "Shades of Blue" starring Lopez.

Nava met Lopez in 1995 when he cast her in his film "My Family," leading to her starring role in his 1997 biography-drama "Selena." The two worked together again for Nava's 2006 film "Bordertown," which Lopez toplined.

The two have remained close friends. Nava accompanied Lopez to her 2013 Hollywood Walk of Fame star unveiling.

The project comes on the heels of her collaboration with Rihanna on the new DreamWorks Pictures animated film, "Home." The two singers released two singles that will accompany the movie. Lopez released "Feel the Light" with Rihanna releasing her single, "Towards the Sun," shortly after. Lopez also plays the role Tip's mother, Lucy Tucci.

The 3D "Home" movie will hit theaters March 27.

Currently single, the superstar seems to enjoy the time she has for family and new opportunities while being "unattached."

"I think being on my own has been really great for me," she told Us Weekly while promoting "The Boy Next Door."

"There was a time where I was just like 'Ehhh, I'm just not going to deal with anybody, I just want to be on my own.' Now I'm getting back into the mix. For right now, I just have no announcements to make," she said.

She might want to reconsider as NFL player Terrell Owens recently revealed that he'd like to date the pop diva.
