Chiquis Rivera insists that she is not trying to ride on her mother's coattails.

Rivera reposted a picture of her and her mother Jenni on the front of Latina Magazine back in 2011 on her Instagram page on Thursday. Jenni Rivera passed away in December of 2012.

"For all those people that say I wanted to start a career in entertainment after my momma graduated to heaven. Here is proof I was well on my way while she was here and I had her support! 2011 Latina [Magazine] cover with the one and only [Jenni Rivera] #PowerTeam since 1985, whether you like it or not!"

Chiquis Rivera is now appearing on the cover of that same magazine by herself. Chiquis, whose real name is Janney Marin, began her own successful singing career in 2014. She plans to release her first album, a bilingual mix of banda and pop, in May, according to Latina Magazine.

Before Rivera's album is released, a memoir called "Forgiveness" will be put on sale April 7 from Atria Books. In the book, Rivera explains her painful struggles in life, especially the fight with her mother just two months before the plane crashed that killed her. Rivera calls those two months the "worst two months of my life."

Chiquis helped her mother with the business side of her career. She helped with her music, her clothing and her fragrance line.

Prior to her mother's death, Chiquis also appeared in two reality shows: "Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C" and "Chiquis 'n Control." Chiquis currently has her own web series: "Chiquis Confidential."

Chiquis opens up to Latina Magazine on her mother in the full interview in the April issue. The issue is available on newsstands now.
