Rosie Perez Reveals she Set Madonna Up With Tupac
Madonna's recent mention to Howard Stern about dating late rapper Tupac Shakur was a hot topic of discussion on Thursday's episode of "The View."
Stern recently asked Madonna why she dropped the F-Bomb during her 1994 appearance on "Late Night With David Letterman." Madonna explained that she felt "very gangster" at the time because she was dating Tupac Shakur, Entertainment Tonight reports.
"I don't know, I was in a weird mood that day," Madonna said. "I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time, and the thing is he got me all riled up about life in general. So when I went on the show I was feeling very gangster."
The women of "The View" later addressed Madonna's interview with Howard Stern and host Rosie Perez revealed she was the one who originally set Madonna up with Shakur.
Perez said, while attending the 1993 Soul Train Awards with Shakur as her date, Madonna approached her and asked her to set them up, MTV reports.
"I went to the Soul Train Music Awards. ... And then Madonna comes over and looks at me and she goes, 'Girl,'" Perez said. "I go, 'I got you.' And he (Tupac) was like, and I said, 'She wants to meet you,' and he goes, 'Hook that up.' And I hooked it up and I was very happy about it."
And though Madonna was friendly to Perez up her arrival, other women weren't so nice.
Perez explained that many women at the Soul Train awards who were fond of Shakur assumed that she and Shakur were dating and gave her flack for attending the show with the rapper.
"When we get to the Soul Train Music Awards, every female artist there was on my sh*t," Perez revealed. "And they kept going, 'Hi, Rosie, Hi, Hi.' Never spoke to me before. And there was two girls, they will remain nameless, who wanted to beat me up. And I was telling Tupac, 'Would you tell them I ain't sleeping with you? We just friends.' And he goes, 'You can take 'em.'"
