George Harrison Death Anniversary Tribute: Top 5 George Harrison Songs
November 29th was the 12th anniversary of George Harrison's death. Known as "The Quiet Beatle," George was perhaps the Beatle best known for his unique, critically-acclaimed songwriting, both with The Beatles and as a solo artist. It seems as though "The Quiet Beatle" simply knew when it was best time to speak, rather than simply be quiet!
Nevertheless, here are the top 5 George Harrison songs of all time:
5. Here Comes The Sun (from Abbey Road)
One of the last songs he recorded as part of the legendary Beatles, this song of hope and peace was a precursor of what his solo career was to entail.
4. For You, Blue (from Let It Be)
The B-side of "The Long and Winding Road" single shows Harrison's more sensitive side, with a wistful love song that left the listener yearning for a simpler time in musical history. These days, you may know this song as the song performed by George's son, Dhani, in recent Gap clothing commercials.
3. Something (from Abbey Road)
Abbey Road is a legendary album for many good reasons...this is one of the many good reasons.
2. While My Guitar Gently Weeps (from The Beatles)
From the Fab Four's eponymous album (better known as "The White Album"), this track is listed as one of Rolling Stone magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time," as well as Guitar World's greatest Beatles-era George Harrison song. Eric Clapton, although not formally credited, performed lead guitar on the song.
1. My Sweet Lord (from All Things Must Pass)
This classic song was originally recorded by Billy Preston, though Harrison made it all his own. It topped the charts worldwide, and was the best-selling single of 1971.
