In her efforts to help victims in need from Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Rihanna has recently pledged money for a worthwhile cause and encouraged her fans to do the same.

The recent disastrous storm caused an immense damage in the Philippines, killing over 5,500 lives across the region, with a further 25,000 injured and many left homeless.

Rihanna has been a longtime supporter of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which works in more than 190 countries. In support of the non-profit organization's "There for the Philippines" effort to provide relief to children and families in the areas worst affected by Typhoon Haiyan, the "What Now" singer has donated $100,000.

"Emergencies make headlines, but the recovery continues long after the news cameras leave," said Rihanna in a statement. "Having been a fan and supporter of UNICEF's work over the years, I am honored to join them in helping children who have been impacted by Typhoon Haiyan."

"More than five million kids in the Philippines need our help. UNICEF is there for them today, and for the long road ahead, and so am I," she added.

Rihanna, who won the Icon Award at this year's American Music Awards, certainly proved that she could be a role model to her fans by showing her compassion to those most in need in the Philippines. The 25-year-old pop star took to Twitter to actively urge her 33 million followers to help the good cause.

"Millions of children in the #Philippines need our help. I'm there. NAVY, are you? #ThereAfterHaiyan @UNICEF," she tweeted.
