'American Horror Story' Cast & News: Jessica Lange Is Leaving Show, Actress Takes Credit for Carnival-Themed Season
Jessica Lange has announced that she is done with American Horror Story.
At the American Horror Story PaleyFest panel, the 65-year old actress, who has starred opposite Jeff Bridges in a 1970s' version of “King Kong" and Robert de Niro in Martin Scorsese’s remake of “Cape Fear,” spoke highly of her time on the FX series, saying: “We’ve had a great run here. I mean, I absolutely love doing these four characters, and in all the madness, I love the writers and Ryan (Murphy) and the insanity of shooting it.”
Lange Lange has won two Emmys, a Golden Globe and a SAG award for her work on the spooky and stylish series.
As reported by Deadline she explained to a crowd of fans at the DolbyTheatre how it was she who actually suggested to the show’s creator and producer Ryan Murphy that he set AHS: Freak Show at a carnival.
“I always loved the idea of a carnival and traveling troupe. I remember going to dusty small town carnivals as a child and seeing these freak shows. No live freaks, but weird things,” said Lange.
In the course of her time on the show, Lange has been allowed to play a wide range of out-there characters.
During her four seasons, Lange has played a Southern belle, a nun, a head witch and a German carnival ringmaster. In her last season, she even got to do a sultry cover of the Lana Del Rey song “Gods and Monsters.”
Lady Gaga will be joining the remaining cast for the fifth season of the Emmy-winning show next October.
But this alone is not reason enough for Lange to stay on board.
When a fan asked whether Lady Gaga’s addition to the series would convince Lange to stay on the show longer, the actress asked back: “What does that mean?"
