Champions League Round of 16 Schedule, Predictions, Results - Arsenal vs. Monaco & Atletico Madrid vs. Bayer Leverkusen
The 2015 edition of Champions League resumes on Tuesday with two of the most suspenseful games of the Round of 16.
The first game to keep an eye out for is the Arsenal vs. Monaco matchup. When Arsenal learned that it would take on the French side, many thought that the English side had struck gold as it avoided one of the top sides for the first time in three years.
But Arsenal became its own worst enemy in a 3-1 loss at home that featured one mistake after another. Every goal was the result of a well-time counter attack and with the score at 2-1 in the waning seconds the Gunner would have done well to sit back and let the clock die. Then they could have gone for a 2-0 win on the road to ensure passage. Not an easy task, but certainly a feasible one.
But Arsenal battled for the draw and instead conceded a third goal, making the trip to Monaco very tricky. What's necessary for the Gunners to make the quarterfinals? A three-goal victory at the very least. The team certainly has the horses to pull off the feat (remember how Schalke scored four goals at the Santiago Bernabeu and was one Iker Casillas mistake away from eliminating the defending champs?), but whether or not Arsene Wenger can get them to do it is another question altogether.
In the other matchup, Atletico Madrid will look to overcome a 1-0 defeat against a solid Bayer Leverkusen side that made last year's UCL runner-ups looks rather ordinary. It only takes one goal to change the tide, but based on how the other game went, that goal might be harder to obtain that one might imagine.
Predictions
Arsenal wins, but a 2-0 victory eliminates the team on away goals. Meanwhile, Atletico rises to the occasion and puts up a 3-1 victory to charge into the quarterfinals.
Schedule, How to Watch
Both games will be available on Fox Soccer 2 Go streaming service. Games start at 3:45 PM EST.
