Sling TV, a media product meant to complement subscription-based online services such as Hulu and Netflix, goes live on Xbox One starting today.

If you own the latest Xbox One, you are automatically entitled to receive a free month-long trial.

The Xbox One is the first console to get the service. Subscribers using Sling TV will be able to watch live streams of cable channels such as ESPN and AMC.

The addition of Sling TV narrows the competition between Xbox One and PlayStation 4, which is soon set to get a live-TV program called Vue that will operate itself.

To accommodate all their customer base Microsoft is promising that there will be voice and gesture controls plus the ability to pin apps while watching shows like “The Walking Dead” and “Mad Men.”

As detailed in Venture Beat, Roger Lynch, the chief executive officer of Sling TV, spoke about his company’s intentions, saying: “We built Sling TV with millennials in mind, and that includes gamers.”

Lynch went on to say that “Xbox has been at the forefront of gaming and technology for years, so it made sense to bring Sling TV to the passionate Xbox user. For many millennials, Xbox One is already the center of their living room experience, and we want to reach these fans to show there’s a better way to get live TV that doesn’t require a long-term commitment, high programming costs, additional wires, or hidden fees.”

The price for Sling TV will be $20 for a basic package and $5 for each additional package.

And the good news is that even if you do not already own the system you will be able get three free months if you buy it starting today.
