Kanye West Nike Feud: Yeezus Rapper Signs Adidas Partnership Worth $10 Million
While he still has some issues unresolved with Nike, Kanye West goes for its rival sneaker company Adidas and signs a deal which worth $10 million.
The Chicago rapper's business relationship with Nike turned out to be not so great after the company denied him royalties for his popular Air Yeezy sneakers, simply because he was not an athlete. West even expressed his frustration and sour feeling towards Nike at his "Yeezus" tour stop in Nashville last week, which he intended to aim at the CEO of the company.
"Do you know who the head of Nike is?" 'Ye asked the crowd. "No, well let me tell you who he is. His name is Mark Parker, and he just lost culture. Everyone at Nike, everyone at Nike, Mark Parker just let go of culture."
Yeezy continued his Nike rant during his recent concert at Barclays center, saying that his latest Nike sneaker, Air Yeezy 2 Red Octobers, were allegedly being leveraged with other Nike shoe sales.
"I talked to my man down in Miami that runs the store and they said Nike was pressuring them saying if you want the Red Octobers, you have to take all these trash-ass shoes. Nike was pressuring them trying to leverage off some shit that I made."
Kanye West previously mentioned his new business partnership with Adidas on Hot 97's "Angie Martinez Show." When the radio show host asked him about whether the deal is set, the rapper responded by saying it's "official, non-official, official." He admitted that he reportedly "only got 10 to 20 cents on the dollar for sales of his sneakers from Nike, and he only had a small personal stash to give out to his friend," and said he took "the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family."
With the $10 million deal, West will receive royalties for each pair that sells.
