Aaron Hernandez Murder Trial News Update: Prosecutor Says Nike Shoe at Crime Scene Matches What Hernandez Wore
Prosecutors brought in a Nike expert to say that former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was wearing the same kind of shoes that left a footprint on the crime scene, according to The Associated Press.
Surveillance found more evidence on Tuesday against Hernandez in the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée.
Nike consultant Herbert Hedges, who worked for the footwear company for over three decades, was shown video surveillance of the ex-New England Patriots tight end 90 minutes before the murder and 10 minutes after.
Hedges said Hernandez was wearing Nike Air Jordan 11 Lows based on the video, which prosecutors say was the exact kind of footprint found near the crime scene.
Yet, Hernandez's lawyer James Sultan said that more than three million shoes with that sole have been made. Hedges rebutted that fewer were made in a size 13, which would have a slightly different sole than the others.
Hernandez wears a size 13.
More surveillance footage played in the murder trial also shows headlights from a car moving away from the crime scene the night of the murder, according to the AP.
Prosecutors played the grainy video Tuesday that showed the vehicle lights moving toward and from the crime scene.
Lloyd was fatally shot in an empty lot in the industrial park near Hernandez's home back in 2013.
On Wednesday, prosecutors showed two more videos of a vehicle leaving the industrial park just four minutes after Lloyd sent his last text message.
Yet, the videos could not clearly show which kind of car it was or how many people were in the vehicle.
A witness was called to the stand, Kwami Nicholas, who said that he went to a nightclub with Lloyd's friends a few days before the murder. Nicholas said he saw Hernandez staring at Lloyd with anger in his eyes that night.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty in the murder of Lloyd.
