David Villa.

David Beckham.

Thierry Henry.

What do they have in common? The MLS.

And while their names have done a ton to improve the image of the American Soccer League, there are other names that could do even more to further that cause.

Example? Cristiano Ronaldo.

And it could actually happen. As soon as 2018!

According to reports by the MLS's official website, the superstar might be looking to make his way to the U.S. once his current contract with Real Madrid expires. And according to that same source, Ronaldo might be looking at New York, Los Angeles and Miami as his destinations.

New York currently has two teams in the Red Bulls, who play in New Jersey, and the recently inaugurated NYCFC. The latter club already has two designated big names in David Villa and the soon-to-arrive Frank Lampard (whenever he gets there) and if those two are still playing in New York in three years, it is unlikely that the MLS allows the Portuguese Ballon d'Or winner to unbalance the league further.

Miami is apparently going to get a team if Beckham has his way and Ronaldo's arrival might be the perfect way to get that franchise going. The same goes for the supposed franchise ready to crop up in Los Angeles to join the Galaxy.

Moreover, Ronaldo is expected to make a lot of money. We are talking well over $5 million, possibly $10 million if it is allowed (though if you get a name like his why wouldn't you?). So a big market team would be the only one likely to be able to cover those expenses. Of course, the MLS could find a way to get Ronaldo to lower his salary while allowing him to keep his image rights, something that will undoubtedly prove lucrative if the superstar joins the American League.

For now, this is mere speculation and a pipe dream, at that. But imagine if Ronaldo decides to finish his career in a major US city.

Do you know what would be better? If Ronaldo and his rival Lionel Messi both join the league and renew their battles in America.

But that is a story for another day.
