iZombie Season 1 Spoilers & Cast News: Creator Says Show Is Very Different From 'Veronica Mars,' Liv Is More 'Hopeful' Person
Rob Thomas, the creator of the hit series "Veronica Mars," ensures fans that his upcoming show, "iZombie" is very different from the Kristen Bell-fronted program, despite both incorporating heroines with very similar qualities and traits.
TVLine reports that "iZombie" and "Veronica Mars" share "an array of colorful characters and trademark wit."
Both shows also feature heroines who who are affiliated with the police department, HollywoodLife.com adds.
"Living life as a zombie who's also a member of the Seattle police department, [iZombie's] Liv lives her life by a strict, law abiding code. Veronica, meanwhile, pretty much lived her life with abandon, following very few rules as a private investigator," says the HollywoodLife.com.
But despite the similarities, Thomas recently spoke with TVLine about how Liv and Veronica are very different in their world views.
"[Liv] is more naturally a hopeful person," Thomas explained. "When I would talk to the Veronica Mars writing staff about how to write Veronica, I would say, 'Write her like a porcupine.' She had a lot of awful things [happen to her]. She's a world-weary, cynical, Raymond Chandler-esque gumshoe [who] sees the glass half-empty -- hopefully, charmingly so."
And unlike Veronica who experienced a lot of trauma in her life, Liv's biggest obstacle is that she becomes a zombie, Thomas explained. He also added that Veronica is more of a rule-breaker than Liv.
When asked to predict what advice Veronica would give to Liv, Thomas said that Veronica would encourage Liv to use her psychic abilities to solve crimes.
Thomas explained that "Veronica Mars" focused more on detective work to solve a case and "iZombie" uses Liv's supernatural ability to find the answers to a mystery.
"For fans of detective work, Veronica Mars is probably the better show. We're a little bit more genre in iZombie," he said.
"iZombie" airs Tuesdays on CW at 9 p.m. ET.
