A 50-year-old Canadian man who had been beaten to death was found on Wednesday at a beach at the Mexican resort of Los Cabos.

According to the CBC News, prosecutors in the state of Baja California Sur announced that the man appeared to have been beaten with a blunt object.

The cause of death, according to the prosecutors' office, was severe head trauma coupled with a skull fracture.

The dead man remains unknown as Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development has declined to confirm the man's identity or hometown, or even confirm the actual circumstances of the death.

The corpse was discovered on the El Tule beach, in an area that was midway between the twin resorts of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.

The is the second recent death of a Canadian in Mexico as last week a 35-year-old Canadian woman died off Cabo San Lucas when a whale crashed into the side of the boat that she was in.

There have been other dangerous and suspect situations along Mexico's resort areas as well.

The Mexican navy announced on Wednesday that it had found a boat that had been stolen during a mass robbery of tourists on an island off the nearby city of La Paz last week. The recovered boat was abandoned in an area of mangroves close to La Paz.

On March 14, a gang of armed men arrived at the island of Espiritu Santo aboard a boat and stole the belongings of a group of, for the most part, foreign tourists that were on a day trip to the island.

Aside from the pilfered belongings, the thieves made off with one of the boats that the tourists had arrived in.

In the wake of the crime, the navy has announced that it was stepping up patrols in the area in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
