'Shameless' Spoilers: Fiona Might Find Fun with Gus, But He's Not Necessarily Part of a 'Happy' Ending
In a tragic-comic show like “Shameless,” which builds its episodic tension over daily drunkenness, generational family dysfunction, and the soul-crushing exploits of a daddy figure who is always trying to stick it to the man, there has not been a lot of safe fun for the characters.
But that all might change for at least one of the characters of the William H. Macy-starring Showtime series.
Fiona (Emmy Rossum), who has had to raise her brothers and sisters by herself, and made a memorable stressed out speech concerning her absent mother, has been trying to get her chaotic life in order.
And things just might be on track to a better world for her.
As the eldest of the Gallagher children, Fiona has had to pretty much put her life on hold, taking up all the parental duties, working minimum wage jobs, dropping out of school, and selflessly postponing her own happiness for the well being of her siblings.
The character of Gus (Steve Kazee), a charming bass player, has been a point of welcomed stability in her troubled life. And apparently the guy will stick around.
According to Matt Webb Mitovich of TVLine, the dude will continue to be a bright spot in an otherwise dark life, although “that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a part of any happy (by Gallagher standards) ending.”
There will still be plenty of chaos concerning a husband and an employer, and all that will rev up to a cliffhanger by the end of the finale.
Rossum spoke to HitFix last year about how she is often confused with her character by her fans.
“I was on vacation right after we wrapped last week and I was on the beach and a man came up to me and said, 'How dare you be on vacation on the beach? You should be in jail for accidentally giving that toddler cocaine.' And then just walked away. But I take that as I'm doing my job right and I do feel like there will be a certain amount of redemption for Fiona,” said Rossum.
