A Colombian school funded by Shakira's nonprofit organization Pies Descalzos was robbed on March 14.

The school, located in La Playa de Barranquilla, Colombia, is the eighth institution funded by her nonprofit foundation.

According to a statement released by the foundation and reported by Voxxi, the thieves made off with 31 computers that had been donated by the “Computers to Educate” program from the National Government.

A statement on the Fundacion Pies Descalzos site said 31 laptops "that were given by the Ministry of Education in the 'Computadores para Educar' program two years ago” had been stolen.

The message goes on to read the theft “directly affects the dynamic in our educational community,” as the laptops “are essential tools daily used by the children that study to build a country and to make their dreams true in disadvantages communities.”

Authorities have already begun investigations into the case, but unfortunately the security cameras were not on at the time of the robbery.

Shakira has not yet issued a statement about the theft.

The singer talked to Billboard last year about her intentions with the project: “I want to demonstrate through the Pies Descalzos model how we can change the lives, not only of the children who come to school, but also their families. Entire communities can be transformed when you have a school that functions properly."

Shakira started her foundation in 1997, naming it after her album “Pies Descalzos.”

By 2003 she had launched a massive nutrition program for displaced and marginalized children.

In 2004, Pies Descalzos built its first school and community center in the state of Chocó.

"This is part of my advocacy: Promote access to universal education," the singer said.
