Larry Johnson Reportedly Sued by Four Different Women, Owes at Least $120K in Back Child Support
Reportedly, former NBA All-Star Larry Johnson is being accused of not paying child support by at least four different women.
TMZ Sports reports that over the years, 46-year-old Johnson fathered at least five kids with four different women. Just last month, the former New York Knicks star filed for bankruptcy in California, claiming he owes more than $300K in outstanding debts.
The website adds much of that money is owed to the mothers of his children, with legal documents alleging he collectively owes more than $120,000 in back child support payments.
In all, the former UNLV star played 10 NBA seasons, five with both the Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets. His best season came with the Hornets in 1992-93 when he averaged 22 points, 11 rebound and four assists. Johnson was also a key contributor on the Knicks' 1999 Eastern Conference championship team.
The two-time All-Star averaged 11 points, five rebounds and three assists that season. Over his career, he posted numbers of 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists, averaging at least 10 points and five rebounds in each season.
During the late 1990s, Johnson was also featured in a series of Reebok commercials as "Grandmama." In 1993, Johnson signed his most lucrative NBA contract with the Hornets for 12-years and $84 million. That same year, he appeared on an episode of the TV show "Family Matters" as the "Grandmama" character.
In 2001, Johnson formally announced his NBA retirement, citing lingering back problems as the primary reason. Six years later, he returned to UNLV to earn his bachelor's degree and since then has expressed an interest in returning to the NBA some sort of executive capacity.
Johnson has also starred in such films as "Eddie" and "Space Jam," alongside Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley.
