This weekend, the studios release to mid-budget films hoping to recover after a series of flops while "Cinderella" and "Insurgent" hope to continue their solid runs.

From Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart's "Get Hard" to Jennifer Lawrence's "Serena," Latin Post.com takes a look at the hottest movies in theaters this weekend:

"Get Hard" 

The first big release of the weekend is "Get Hard" starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. The comedy tells the story of James King, a millionaire who is nailed for fraud and bound for San Quentin. As a result, he turns to Darnell Lewis to prep him to go behind bars. The film has received mixed reviews and is currently tracking to open with $31 million. However, the film stirred controversy when it premiered at the SXSW Film Festival with the Gay community and with the black community. Warner Bros. hopes the controversy will not hurt its opening weekend as the film is opening in 3,150 theaters. However, Ferrell is still a household name and his films still tend to make good money.

"Home" 

It has been a month since the studios release an animated film. This weekend Dreamworks will unveil "Home," which tells the story of Oh, an alien on the run from his own people. When he lands on Earth, he makes friends with the adventurous Tip, who is on a quest of her own. The film is voiced by Jim Parsons and Rihanna and scored mixed reviews. Dreamworks has been on a slump for some time especially after last year a number of their films underperformed, especially "How to Train Your Dragon 2" and "Penguins of Madagascar." Things are not looking too satisfactory either for "Home" as the film is expected to open in between $20-30 million. However, with spring break coming, the film could benefit from kids out of school.

"It Follows" 

The critically-acclaimed horror movie will be released in wide release and a short run in few venues. The film has been financially successful and Radius TWC has decided to delay the VOD release for the film. Opening in 1,200 theaters, the movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and tells the story of a young girl who gets involved in a sexual confrontation and is later followed by an unknown force.

"Serena" 

Three years after being filmed and having difficulties in post-production Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper will reunite in the highly-anticipated Susanne Bier film. The drama tells the story of George Pemberton, whose timber empire becomes complicated when he marries Serena. The film premiered at the London Film Festival, where it received mixed reviews. Critics have noted that the movie will be a hard sell given the dark subject matter. As a result, Magnolia will release the film on VOD and in 58 theaters, with the hopes that the Lawrence and Cooper brand that worked for "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle" can sell the movie.

"While We're Young" 

A24 will release Noah Baumbach's latest feature, starring Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts. The dramedy tells the story of a middle-aged couple's career and marriage, which are overturned when a disarming young couple enters their lives. The movie scored rave reviews and Watts and Stiller have scored raves. Baumbach is an art film household name and the movie is likely to take off if audiences embrace the movie.

Also opening in art house theaters are "Cupcakes," "A Girl Like Her," and "Man from Reno."

Magnolia will also release the acclaimed "White God" while Sony will release the Oscar nominated film "The Salt of the Earth." IFC will also release Lone Scherfig's "The Riot Club." 

Of the holdovers Roadside Attractions' "'71" will expand while "Cinderella" and "Insurgent" will continue to hold strong trying to become the highest grossing films of the year.
