The beauty of social media is that it has shattered the so-called "fourth wall" between the celebrity and the fan...as such, celebrities, who were once untouchable and mythical, have proven that they're just like us. 

Of course, some celebrities have crossed the threshold from the "just like us" to the ridiculous, controversial, and just plain silly! And of course, thanks to the nature of social media, nothing is ever, ever, deleted for good.

Here, per Mashable, are the top 10 shocking celebrity Instagrams of 2013: 

1. Beyonce: For the most part, the Queen of the Bey-hive is pretty tame and family-friendly. What made her Instagram so controversial is when she cut off her famous locks...and showed off the results on Instagram. The Bey-hive went crazy until she grew her hair back out later in the year.

2. Miley Cyrus: The former Disney teen star broke out in a big way thanks to her twerking episodes. But few remember when she debuted her new tattoo that simply read "Rolling $tone" on the bottom of her feet...and she did it, of course, on Instagram!

3. Ke$ha: Believe it or not, the foul-mouthed pop star has a mostly family-friendly Instagram. The sole standout -- and what made her hit the list -- was her nearly-nude (important parts strategically covered by a curtain) Instagram photo.

4. Amanda Bynes: Unlike Miley, whose "breakdown" translated into a grown-up breakthrough, Amanda Bynes' social media-chronicled breakdown was sad and heart-rending.

5. Rihanna: Everyone's favorite ratchet Bajan showed us her share of strip club pics and nip slips!

6. Nicki Minaj: The "Starships" pop star (some of us remember when she was "Mixtape Nicki," though...), like Rihanna, took to her Instagram to post her share of topless photos (important parts strategically covered by her hair/weave).

7. Nick Jonas: The youngest "JoBro" made the list for his Instagram photo featuring his very nicely developed body. 

8. Kim Kardashian: The soon-to-be Mrs. Kanye West turned the publicity machine up to 100 with her Instagram photos of baby North and her surprisingly-amazing post-baby body.

9. Donald Glover: Better known as "Childish Gambino," this actor-turned-rapper made the list for his dark, Jim Morrison-type musings...unexpected for the fun-and-funky rapper.

10. Lady Gaga: The superstar made the list because she took to her Instagram to give fans a sneak peek into her new album, ARTPOP, before it was even a blip on the radar.
