Arnold Schwarzenegger, known most ironically for his stint as the governor of California and his continued involvement in the "Terminator" franchise, is back.
And the trailer for his new zombie-genre film is making waves.
In the new film, "Maggie," the actor will portray a seasoned farmer by the name of Wade, a loving father to a teen daughter, Maggie (Abigail Breslin), who he's protecting and caring for at the peak of a zombie apocalypse that's sweeping the nation.
When Maggie becomes infected, and the slow-consuming virus continues to transform her into an undead creature with a budding appetite for human brains, Wade stands by her and attempts to ward of authorities, who are attempting kill her or collect her for quarantine. Though her condition worsens, the father is firm in his love; although Maggie would like him to save himself from the disease that's undoing her humanity.
The trailer for Schwarzenegger's new drama/thriller, "Maggie," premiered on Facebook on Wednesday, and the world is tuning in to watch the two-minute preview.
The script for the film was written by newcomer writer and executive producer John Scott 3. And the original screenplay made the 2011 BlackList, which is a list released each year documenting the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood. Early reviews of the film have already deemed it "superb," and the father-daughter humanistic angle is a fresh take on a zombie film. The trailer, in its brevity, manages to capture to the bond and love shared by father and the daughter. And it only slightly hints at foreboding the danger and fear regarding the growing undead population.
In addition to Breslin and Schwarzenegger, the film also includes Joely Richardson, Laura Cayouette, Raeden Greer and Amy Brassette in supporting roles.
Directed by Henry Hobson, the film is due to hit theaters on May 8 in the U.S., with a limited international release scheduled for later in the year.
