World's Fastest and Tallest Roller Coaster Fury 325 Opens at Carowinds [Watch]
On Wednesday, the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place for the Fury 325, the world's tallest and fastest giga roller coaster, but the thrill ride won't be open to the public until Saturday, reports NBC News.
The Charlotte, North Carolina-based Carowinds amusement park announced that the Fury 325 simulates the wild, bold and spontaneous flight of an angry hornet chasing its prey. The ride will be the centerpiece of the park's new 8.2 acre main entrance plaza.
"The first time you ride Fury, you will remember it for the rest of your life," Mike Fehnel, Carowinds' general manager, told NBC News.
The 6,600-foot-long adrenaline rush lasts only three minutes, but is certain to give you an unforgettable thrill.
Riders will board three 32-passenger open air trains and begin their climb to the top of a 325-foot hill, which is more than 30 stories high -- taller than the Statue of Liberty! Once riders breach the immense hill, they experience an exhilarating 81-degree drop that is certain to deliver a stomach-churning thrill. Designed to move like an angry hornet, the Fury 325 will race through a series of curves, hills and quick transitions while reaching a top speed of 95 miles per hour.
The man who designed the Fury 325, Rob Decker, admits the speed is, well, crazy.
"People can't drive a car that fast. At least they shouldn't," he told NBC News. "And they certainly can't take turns like we're taking at 95 miles an hour."
WSOC-TV reports that it took 50 engineers working for more than a year to design, engineer and fabricate drawings of the ride. It took eight months to install the ride using 200 skilled workers.
Carowinds 2015 season pass holders get exclusive access to ride Fury 325 on Friday, March 27, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Other thrill-seekers will be able to experience Fury 325 when it officially opens to the public on Saturday, March 28, 2015.
Carowinds amusement park has 14 rollercoasters and now boasts two of the tallest roller coasters in North America: Fury 325 and the Intimidator, which is 232 feet tall.
