Bill Cosby Rape Allegations: Chelsea Handler Reveals Encounter with Comedian, Says ‘He Tried to Cosby me’
Weeks after legendary comedian Bill Cosby broke his silence about multiple sexual assault allegations via a video message, Chelsea Handler is revealing her own experience with the embattled star.
In an interview with Esquire magazine, the talk show host said she had an encounter with Cosby a decade ago.
Handler described being in Atlantic City, New Jersey, doing stand-up at the same hotel where Cosby was also performing.
"At like three o'clock in the afternoon, someone from the hotel came down and said, 'Oh, you know, Mr. Cosby would really like to meet you up in his hotel suite'," Handler told Esquire. "And I thought, 'That's really weird.' This was like ten years ago. And I said, 'That's really weird. I don't want to go alone.' I go, 'I don't know him.'"
Handler explained that she decided to invite her friends to the meeting.
"So the three guys I was with -- thank God these guys were with me. One was filming and one was like a producer; we were filming something -- I brought them up with me to his room and thank God I did, because now I know what would've happened if I went up there alone," she revealed.
The former "Chelsea Lately" host said she completely forgot about the close encounter with Cosby until the media started reporting about women who accused the veteran comedian and actor of sexual improprieties.
"Then my friend texted me the other day saying, 'Do you remember that night we went up to, or that afternoon we went up to Bill Cosby's and you were so freaked out you made us come with you?' And I said, 'Yeah,' and he said, 'Hello! You could've been one of his victims if we weren't there.' And I went, 'Oh my gosh ...' Yeah, so yeah, he's guilty," she said.
Handler did not hide her feelings and added that "he tried to Cosby me."
Handler appears alongside Nick Offerman discussing men, women and genitalia in "Women & Men," a special section in Esquire's April 2015 issue.
