Bonnie and Clyde Show 2013: Miniseries Debuts on A&E To Rave Reviews [CLIP]
Last night, A&E debuted their latest tribute to America's most infamous outlaws, and the reviews are nothing if not positive!
Bonnie and Clyde, the miniseries, debuted last night on Lifetime, A&E and The History Channel, isn't trying to fill the void left by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway's classic 1967 film. In addition, unlike the new version of The Sound Of Music (which, despite its high viewership numbers, was excoriated by fans and critics alike), this new version of Bonnie and Clyde is getting rave reviews.
The miniseries stars Emile Hirsch (previously seen in Into The Wild) as Clyde Barrow, who is equal parts teen-scream charm and criminal ruthlessness (as opposed to Warren Beatty's take on the character, which was all 1960s-style schtick and Edward G. Robinson-esque fervor). Meanwhile, gorgeous British actress Holliday Granger (last seen in The Borgias as the ignoble Lucrezia) takes on the role of Bonnie Parker, and her portrayal has met with approval from none other than Faye Dunaway (who, most famously, gave the catty "Couldn't they have cast a real actress?" remark when former teen pop queen Hillary Duff took on the Bonnie Parker role for a film).
Other stars of the miniseries include veterans Holly Hunter and William Hurt. Twilight co-star Elizabeth Reaser and Modern Family's own Sarah Hyland round out the cast.
Bonnie Fuller's Hollywood Life sums up the miniseries succinctly: "Is Bonnie & Clyde perfect? No. Does it leave plenty of room for improvement? Sure. But is it, at heart, a solid way to pass a few hours and lift us out of our wintery chill? Absolutely."
Part 2 premieres tonight. Check out the trailer for the miniseries below.
