Mexican icon Jenni Rivera left us unexpectedly last Dec. 9, 2012. It's been a year since the chilling news touched the hearts of not only her family but also her dedicated fans. Today we remember La Diva de La Banda and celebrate her legacy.

With 1 million albums sold in the United States and a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jenni proved that her talent could surpass all boundaries. With a number of businesses under her belt and The Jenni Rivera Love Foundation, Rivera also dominated in the business world. A native of Long Island Calif. born to undocumented Mexican parents, music was always a big part of Jenni's family.

Her brother, Lupillo Rivera, is also a successful singing sensation in the Latin world. Jenni, who was married three times and had five children, had a very turbulent personal life. Her troubles consisted of horrific incidents and fights, some with Lupillo himself, and even a rumored betrayal from her own daughter. Through all of these hard punches, Rivera bounced back time and time again -- one thing you can say about Jenni: nothing could break her down. She created an empire for herself and her family but was never "too good" for anyone,

"When you are given a lot, you are required to give back" Jenny once happily said. We lost an amazing group of people and a generous soul in that plane crash in Mexico that day.

Jenni Rivera is buried at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, Calif. Though fans are not allowed to visit the grave site today (due to the construction of a customized tombstone), this doesn't stop them from honoring her memory on this sad day. Jenni's reality show "I Love Jenni" will be having a marathon on mun2. This reality series really put to light Jenni's generosity and love towards her fans. Her simplicity and fun spirit made people feel as if she was just a normal Mexican-American girl from Cali.

You can also catch a number of different tributes in her memory on Telemundo and other Latin channels. Before she died, Jenni got to finish her autobiography, Unbreakable, which tells the stories of Jenni's tough life and incredible will to move forward. La Gran Señora was an amazing singer, mother, friend and businesswoman. Her "no filter" personality got her in trouble sometimes but her huge heart shined brighter than any diamond. Take a shot of Tequila (La Gran Señora Tequila being her own) for the diva -- the beautiful and irreplaceable Jenni Rivera.
