Columbus Short is hinting he could be joining the cast of the smash hit "Empire" for the upcoming second season.

According to E! News, the former "Scandal" star admits, "Big things are happening. I'm going to be bridging my music career with my acting career." He later added, "I'm just saying it wouldn't be a shock."

Short starred on "Scandal" alongside Kerry Washington before problems he later attributed to cocaine and alcohol abuse led to him being fired. Short has learned his lesson.

"I won't lie," he said. "I do miss it. I miss it a lot." So much so, he admits these days he simply can't bring himself to watch any of the episodes.

"I completely avoid it," he said. "I support it, but it's like being an injured football player on the sidelines."

Still, Short admits if the opportunity ever arose for him to return to show, he would be more than open to it. Although his character was killed off, he says he would "1,000 percent" rejoin the cast if he were asked.

"It's like breaking up with your girlfriend. ... It's like, 'Oh, man, let's just hook up a couple of more times,'" he said.

All Short's problems began last year after he was involved in a bar fight and later an altercation with his wife, according to HollywoodLife.com. Soon after that, Short moved to Atlanta, where he says he has been working tirelessly on his music.

"I'm not only back, but it's about to be a problem for Hollywood because we're going to go big," he said. "I'm excited, but I'm also humbled and grateful."

Currently, Short stars in the film "The Girl Is in Trouble," where he plays an aspiring DJ who finds himself thrown into the middle of the murder of a drug dealer friend.

"He was willing to struggle for his dream and I think a lot of artists will identify with that," he said of his character.

The flick also stars Wilmer Valderrama, Alicja Bachleda and Jesse Spencer.

Valderrama recently posted an image on Instagram, encouraging his followers to check out the film.
