‘Fresh Off the Boat’ Season 1 Episode 11 Spoilers: Scottie Pippen Guest Stars, Jessica Worries About Bad Luck & Eddie Runs for School President in ‘Very Superstitious’ [Watch]
In "Fresh Off the Boat" Episode 10, "The Blind Spot," Jessica's college ex-boyfriend Oscar visited the Huang family in Orlando.
He was in town to audition for a dance role in "Aladdin on Ice." A conversation with Honey leads Jessica to wonder why Louis isn't threatened by Oscar. Annoyed, Jessica tried to make Louis jealous by talking about her and Oscar's plans to test-drive Jacuzzis and get massages. Louis then drops a bombshell that Jessica was unprepared for: Oscar is gay.
Throughout the episode we learned about Jessica and Oscar's college relationship. They dated for an entire summer as he was not ready to come out about being gay. He only kissed her on the forehead, and she assumed he was just being a gentleman by not pursuing more intimacy.
Jessica's blind spot was that she has terrible "gaydar," according to Louis.
Oscar revealed his crush on Louis, which surprised Louis. The two reminisced about time spent together in college. Oscar was in love with Louis in college, and as they swapped stories of back in the day, Louis began to see it was obvious.
Louis' blind spot was not knowing when people are in love with him.
Meanwhile, Eddie tried to catch chicken pox from his youngest brother, Evan, to avoid participating in the school science fair. Evan crept around the house like a horror film villain trying to infect Emery so he could not participate in or win the science fair.
The morning of the science fair, Eddie was healthy and sought help from his two younger siblings to create a science project to enter in the fair. When he revealed how much research he did to learn how to catch chicken pox, Emery assured him that was enough to create a good science fair project. Eddie's project did not win, but handing in a project was a big enough victory.
In Episode 11, "Very Superstitious," Jessica is back on track with her real estate ambitions, but superstitions get the best of her when she sells a house that has the address 44 West 44th Street -- the number 4 is bad luck in the Chinese culture, and she is certain bad luck is on the way.
The Wrap reports that "30 Rock" alum Judah Friedlander plays a new school counselor named Ray who has comes across as a cool guy to students because of his ponytail and leather jacket. Ray is the kind of guy who isn't afraid to talk about feelings and he Eddie to channel his "hustle" into something more constructive, such as running for school president. Eddie decides to run for president, but Jessica's bad luck rubs off on him when a white lie spirals out of control.
Scottie Pippen fans are in for a real treat as the former NBA star appears on the episode as himself.
In "Very Superstitious," as a favor to his accountant's son, Trent (Trevor Larcom), Scottie visits Eddie's school to help Trent win the student council election, according to The Wrap. Scottie becomes interested in Eddie's campaign -- so much so that he ends up giving Louis tax advice and entertains the Huang family.
