Sen. Marco Rubio and Republican Presidential Hopefuls Bash Obama's Iran Nuclear Deal
Congressional Republicans likely to enter the 2016 presidential race took turns bashing President Barack Obama's tentative nuclear deal with Iran.
According to the Obama Administration, the 15-year deal would force Iran to reduce the number of centrifuges it has spinning uranium by half and disconnect advanced centrifuge models. In addition, a heavy water plant would be barred from producing weapons-grade plutonium, while the U.S. would increase the amount of inspections in the country, reports Fox News.
However, critics note that the language around Iran's research along with its development of advanced technology, which could be used for producing nuclear weapons, is vague.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who is expected on to announce his candidacy this month, also called the deal a "colossal mistake."
"Allowing Iran to retain thousands of centrifuges, keeping facilities such as Fordow open and not limiting Iran's ballistic missile program indicate to me that this deal is a colossal mistake," said the Republican senator in a press release.
"This attempt to spin diplomatic failure as a success is just the latest example of this administration's farcical approach to Iran. Under this President's watch, Iran has expanded its influence in the Middle East, sowing instability throughout the region. Iran's support for terrorism has continued unabated without a serious response from the United States. The regime's repression of the Iranian people and its detentions of American citizens continue."
Likewise, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker called the agreement "dangerous" for the U.S. and its allies.
"Obama's dangerous deal with Iran rewards an enemy, undermines our allies and threatens our safety," said Walker in a tweet shortly after the tentative deal was announced on Thursday.
In addition, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush bashed the deal, saying "The reported details of the Iran deal include significant concessions to a nation whose leaders call for death to America and the destruction of Israel.
"Iran remains a major destabilizing force in the region, working against American interests."
